Poor John Wick. He can’t even have a nice conversation with his dead wife without someone showing up and telling him he’s going to die. But at this point, what could impress him? His whole response is “Maybe not,” which is kind of a funny thing to say—presumably John Wick is not immortal—but does seem to get straight at the plot of John Wick: Chapter 4. Get out or get dead—and the way out is through the Marquis de Gramont (a sneering Bill Skarsgård).

But while it appears John must face the Marquis in single combat, there are plenty of other people for him to face off and/or team up with first, including Donnie Yen (Rogue One), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones), Hiroyuki Sanada (Mortal Kombat), Shamier Anderson (Invasion), Scott Adkins, Rina Sawayama, Clancy Brown, and returning stars Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, and Lance Reddick.

There are many delightful action shots in this trailer, including a scene that seems to involve John deflecting bullets with a sword. But there is nothing quite as delightful as Ian McShane saying, “Just have fun out there” when John is going to face endless enemies, some of which he may have to fight with axes or nunchucks or anything at hand—sometimes while riding a horse, sometimes while driving a car with no doors.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is directed by Chad Stahelski from a screenplay by Michael Finch and Shay Hatten. It’s in theaters March 24, 2023.
